A mission statement is an important piece of your overall business plan. It tells your customers what the purpose of your business is. A mission statement can also help guide you and your employees’ actions. As we head into 2017, it’s time to revisit your mission statement and make sure it leads your business for the upcoming year. Here are 3 tips to create a strong mission statement:
1. Name your customer
Those reading your mission statement should know who your business is for. Naming your customer in your mission statement also helps remind you and your employees of your target audience.
2. Name your product
What do you sell? What can a customer expect? Whether it’s a tangible product or a service, be clear about what your company provides.
3. Show the positive result
How will your product improve a customer’s life? Your mission statement should inspire the audience to act! However, craft this part of your mission statement carefully. It should be more than a sales pitch for your product – the mission statement should be a message of what your company stands for.
