6 Tips for Businesses to Conquer Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is approaching fast! Holidays offer great opportunities to boost sales. Are you prepared to get the most out of this Sunday?

According to a survey conducted by BIGinsight, consumers will spend an average of $168.94 on mom this year – up 11 percent from last year’s $152.52. Total spending is expected to reach $20.7 billion.

Want a piece of that pie? Here are six tips to conquer Mother’s Day 2013:

  • Mother’s Day, isn’t about marketing to mom, you need to remember you are marketing to the gift givers of mom. Make sure it’s easy for gift givers to find your product. For highest reach, make it available online. If you plan on advertising, look to sites like Facebook and Pinterest to promote your products. Your Mother’s Day gift-buyers spend significant time on these social media platforms these days
  • Use one-click ordering and make gift-wrapping an option. This is part of the ease of the gift-giving process. The option for personalized messages makes a nice touch, too!
  • Consider the many figures a mother can take. People often use this day to not only celebrate their moms, but also aunties, grandmas, daughters and sisters. By including the common aliases a woman can take in your messaging, you create the opportunity to capture everyone who appreciates any kind of mother in their life
  • Offer products that aren’t just great for Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day exclusive gifts are perfect – if you are a greeting card company. Don’t set yourself up for a single sale, show your customers why they should like your products all year long. After all, just as mothers should be celebrated on a continual basis, so should your products
  • Don’t miss the opportunity to earn a bounce-back sale. Consider including promotional material in your sale of Mother’s Day merchandise. Because it is included with a purchase, it’s delivered free-of-charge to a current customer
  • Encourage new customers to sign up for your newsletter or be part of your permission-based marketing plan. Remind them about your social media profiles and give them the links to your pages on a business card or receipt. You can also create a survey for them to take to rate their experience and offer a deal to turn them into a repeat customer
